Step by step process to make homemade, raw, goat milk kefir, with starter culture grain.. It's how kefir is cultured that makes it really unique instead of heating the milk, adding a culture, and keeping it warm as you do with yogurt, all you need to make milk kefir are kefir grains. kefir grains are not really grains at all (don't worry, gluten-free folks!).. Our goats milk kefir is made with a base of fresh pasteurised goats milk, and fermented with living kefir grains in the traditional style. this produces a kefir that is superior to kefirs which are made with powdered sachet starters..

Making raw milk kefir is incredibly easy. unlike raw milk yogurt, there is no need to keep a separate starter made from pasteurized milk. there are a few special considerations, however, when using raw milk to make milk kefir.. I get raw milk, skim the cream to make butter and then use the rest of the milk to make kefir. i have made kefir with the whole raw milk but the fat clumps around the grains really bad & it is hard to get them strained out..
