Stall size- we have nds, a saanen and mini saanens. always give yourself room to grow! the goats always seem to multiply. lol we converted an old dairy/horse barn. the horse side had 5 run/ tie stalls that were 8*8 and had an 8' aisle behind them. we made a 16*16, 8*16, and 2 8*8's.. We began tearing down the old shed earlier, and made measurements for fence posts and the new barn. the barn will be 10' (actually 9.5) by 12. so how many adult goats should be able to fit in there comfortably? i will measure the pen size tommorrow and add more details.. The barn needs to be large enough for all your goats to fit into it with a reasonable amount of room. the size will vary depending on the size and number of your goats. if you are unsure of how much space your goats need, measure the largest goat's length and plan on him having at least a foot of space on all sides..
This video shows one example of goat stalls/shelter made of free wood pallets and scrap wood. the resulting stalls are weather/rain proof and home to 3 full size goats, and double as a hay trough. Now for the actual interior design of the goat barn! the barn is divided into thirds. one third of the barn will be the human side and will house plenty of hay, straw, feed, medicine cabinet and milking stanchions. the other two thirds will be the goats loafing area, kidding stalls, waterers and hay feeders.. Ive been repeatedly told a minimum of 15 sqft per mini goat and 25sqft per standard dairy goat in terms of stall/barn space assuming they will have acess to a good outdoor space/pasture. i was also told no more than 8 goats per acre if you want them to be primarily pasture raised/less suplimental feeding..
